Golden Rectangle

Week 8:
Welcome Back

Today we drew profiles of each other. Please refine these drawings and bring them to class next week. We will be comparing them to the very first drawings you did on the first day. I also will be recording them digitally. This drawin comprises 30% of your final exam grade.

HOMEWORK:
Draw a glass of water in an imaginary place. I will be watching for detail, refinement and correct perpective.

STUDY for you final exam on Linear Perspective Terms. The terms can be found at the top of this page.

Week 6:
Right Brain Day

Remember to go slow to see and capture detail in your drawings.

HOMEWORK:
1. In the golden rectangle (the link to this sheet is at the top of the page). Draw a silhouette of a plant. Go slow and capture the detail and be sure to focus on the NEGATIVE SHAPES (the air and spaces around the plan), not the plant itself. Color these negative shapes in black pen.

2. Leonardo Da Vinci Silhouette Drawing. Copy the drawing as bes as you can. Please look at the negative shapes and look for the negative shapes surrounding the eye. Do not draw the eye, but the space and shapes around the eye, that make up the eye, and the eye will magically appear. Shade the drawing as best as you can.

Week 5:
Drawing on Location "The District"

Great work everyone.

HOMEWORK:
Add sharpening and clarity to your drawing. Make whatever you want to say extrememly clear by strengthening your lines and making sure that they are straight.

Week 4:
Friday, No School Nevada Day

Please view homework below.

Week 3:
Ai Interior Drawing

Today we applied our knowledge of 2 and 3 pt perspective to what we see. The assignment today was to create / draw an interior somewhere in the school. Also covered today was how to draw an ellipse.

REMINDER:
NO SCHOOL NEXT FRIDAY

HOMEWORK:
1) Sharpen your Ai drawings and make them clearer.
2) Create a viewfinder from black construction paper with the dimensions below.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERONE!
See you at the picnic!

Week 2:
2 and 3 point perspective.

Today we covered two and three point perspective.

A tutorial for the above image can be found here.

We also learned how to draw a 2 pt. perspective city and a 2 pt. perspective interior of a room.

HOMEWORK:
Two items are due, both were started in class.

1. Add detail to the 2 pt. perspective city we started in class. I will be looking to see if you understand that all converging lines go towards a single vanishing point. If you can do this, you get 89 points (a B+). To get an A, do something creative with the city. Tell a story. Have fun with it, but make it interesting.

2. Add detail to the 2 pt. perspective drawing of the room. Look at items in the room you are in and add them into your drawing. Again, be creative and strive for a refined drawing.

Have a great week everyone!

Week 1:
Welcome

For many of you, this is the beginning of the journey. Stay the course, keep your eye on the prize and remember that it is a marathon and not a sprint. Pace yourself so that you are always doing your best.

Check this page weekly to stay on top of what was covered in class. If you do not understand the material, please let me know.

This week, we discussed the importance of drawing and how it relates to your perspective careers. Drawing is the foundation for all the visual arts and in order to be proficient at what you are trying to achieve, you must have a good solid understanding of the basics...your Foundation. We are not wanting you to be a "Leonardo", although that would be nice, but at least be good enough so that you are able to express a concept or idea in a clear, pleasing and effiective way.

In class assignment
• Preinstruction Drawing (In Class Portrait)

This week we covered the basics of perspective drawing, its importance in visual arts history, and how we use it to make our work believable.

Homework
Your homework this week is to draw 24 boxes in 1 pt. perspective. 12 of them using a ruler and the remaining 12 freehand (no ruler). Label the horizon line, and vanishing point. In doing drawing freehand use the golf swing technique and use speed to help you creat a straight line. Also, in drawing lines freehand, be sure move the entire pencil, not just the tip of the pencil. Use the length of the pencil to gauge the correct angle. This is called sighting.

Also, experiment with drawing one box in front of the other. This is called overlap. It helps create depth your in your drawing, making it more interesting and inviting.

Parameters:
For a grade of "A", I will be looking for these things.
24 boxes (12 ruler, 12 no ruler), at least 1 overlap, but try to do more. Make an interesting drawing.
Neatness and craft
Turned in at the deadline.
