Week 8: Drawing from the cast
Today was a tough day for everyone. Drawing from the cast is quite challenging. I will bring examples of this type of drawing the next time we meet.

Remember to draw the shapes that you see and remove yourself from the object as what it is. Do not draw the ear, nose or eye. Instead draw only the shapes that make up those items. Think abstractly about these shapes and you will have a better drawing.

HOMEWORK:

1.
You will be turning in two of your best drawings matted. I will be recording them digitally. Please choose your two best drawings and add refinement to them.

Week 6: Drapery
Great work everyone! Today we learned how to render drapery. For the most part everyone did well. I wll be pointing out a couple of things the next time meet. Until then, please be prepared by bringing in the correct materials listed below.

HOMEWORK:

1.
Bring Charcoal, Spray Fixative, tape and a kneaded rubber eraser.

Week 4: Drawing on Location
Great work everyone!

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER:

1.
CVC: Composition, Value and Color
2. Composition, how the elements on the page are layed on is the most important attibute of a piece. It overrides any style or technique.
3. Use your viewfinder to help you nail a composition. When we draw on location, there is so much around us. The viewfinder helps us narrow down what we percieve to the picture before us.
4. Strive for clarity in line and values in your drawing.

Next WEEK:
Drapery and a short presentation of artists you should know.

Week 3: No School Nevada Day
Bring to class black construction paper. We will be creating viewfinders to help us in composing our work. We will be using the format below. School will begin next week.

Week 2: Light and Form
Nice work everyone! Please keep up the momentum. Thanks for helping to set up and breakdown the room. We will be doing this every time we meet.

Please study and review the image below and be able to name the the 2 types of shadows and the characteristics of each. You will be tested on this in two weeks.

TOPICS COVERED TODAY:
• Include a warm up of 15 minutes before any drawing session. The warm up is to connect your hand to your eye.
• Use sighting and a light touch to put down angles and general size relationships.
• Lecture on light. See above image.
• Study the process found in you text pages 34-36.
• The 3 step process is as follows: 1) Contour Drawing (Establish layout and proportions. 2) Blockin the values (if this is new, start with the backgrounds first. 3)Model forms, by adding more values and detail as seen in the above diagram.
