Web Servers and URL's ::
Below you will find links to various servers to host your site, reserve your URL and domain name and a little section on creating your own blog. You will need to buy server space and a URL if you wish to have a site. Once you have both, save the emails they send you in order to access your server, and to point your URL to your server.

Creating a Blog

You have a few options in creating a website to showcase your work. To do so, you are going to need server space. If that is not an option for you, you may want to consider creating a blog. A blog has many benefits: its free, you can post text,videos and pictures from any coputer, you have great professional predesigned customizable templates to choose from and I see a lot of professionals using them in the design community. To the left is an example of one. Use them also to record things that inspire you or use it to record progress on current projects and you can link to it from your homepage as a "latest news" type feature for your site. I recommend Blogspot to begin your blog. You can also view my blog to get an idea of what it looks like.

Choosing A Server/Webhost
Below are links to servers and webhosts that my students and I have used. I recommend you explore them, and weigh your options, see what you get for your money. If you are not sure, come check with me. You can also search for webservers on your own, but your best bet is to ask around. My criteria for using them is ease of setup and that they have tools that help you maintain your site. Start with these below, I'll add to them as I hear how these webservers work for you.

Be sure you view the resources below and to the left for other webspace and server recommendations by Google. Sometimes, these servers have deals available to you. In choosing a server, its best to get recommendations from people who use the server, and be sure you check their homepage for any awards, certifications and security level information. If you are unsure, you can also contact the server company for more information.

URL's
To reserve your URL (your www.yourname.com), you may use any of the links above, or you can use godaddy. Godaddy also sells server space.

When reserving your URL, search yournam.com first. If its not available, try to choose URL name that is simple to remember.
